Are you a practicing or future lawyer that is having trouble with your job search? Gridline offers one-to-one career advising for lawyers trying to figure out that next move. I bring the insights and experience of a former BigLaw corporate lawyer that left practice, plus 10+ years experience as a career advisor at Boston University School of Law and Harvard Law School. I offer practical advice and strategic goal-setting whether you are looking to make that next move right away or in the next couple years (see my testimonials).
I use my background and expertise to assist lawyers looking at a range of career opportunities including, but not limited to:
Law firms
In-house jobs
Start-ups and solo practice
Corporate positions
Non-legal positions
Here is a list of the services that I offer:
BigLaw Firm Search Service - for attorneys and candidates looking to move or lateral to another BigLaw firm (note that this service does not typically require payment from the searching candidates as law firms typically pay recruiters for strong candidates)
Candidate-Focused Job Search Service - this is a for-pay service for attorneys and candidates that are looking for career advising and strategy support for their job search in areas where it is harder for a traditional legal recruiter to place like certain law firms, in-house legal employment, small firm/solo practice, corporate positions and non-legal positions

If you are an associate looking to move or lateral to another BigLaw firm, I have both the career advising experience and recruiting contacts to assist you in your search.
I will provide all the services that you need to make a successful lateral law firm move including:

We will not submit your materials for any position without your express written permission.
Mock interview preparation. I will coach you through what you can expect and how to handle the tough questions for each law firm interview that you have.
Offer evaluation and counselling. When a job offer comes in, we will discuss the full terms and details.
* NOTE: Most law firms will pay recruiters for matching strong candidates to open positions. Therefore, a candidate fee may not be required.
Candidate-Focused Job Search Service
In the legal hiring market, few employers other than BigLaw firms pay for recruiting services. As a result, it can be difficult to find a recruiter who will assist you on a search for the vast majority of legal openings. But as an experienced former career advisor at Harvard Law School and Boston University School of Law, I have the experience and the know-how to provide detailed advice for attorneys looking beyond the BigLaw firm. My services in this area include:
Detailed materials review (including resume, draft cover letter, writing sample and any other materials)
Preparation of a highly-tailored search strategy. I will work with you to prepare a concrete job search strategy that is both realistic and tailored to your goals. I will use proprietary resources and materials to identify both actual and possible job openings. Since 80% of jobs are not formally posted, we will discuss specific ways to use your network and tools such as LinkedIn to identify “hidden opportunities".”

Mock Interview Service
If you are looking for only a mock interview to prepare for an upcoming interview within the legal field, I also offer that as a standalone service. Most legal interviews are conversational in nature; “Why are you interested in this position?,” “Why are you looking to leave your current job?” and “Tell me about [x] experience.” are the most common questions you will receive in a legal interview. Despite the conversational nature, strategy and preparation are essential. Additionally, your approach in a legal interview depends on lots of different factors including your type of experience, the type of position and more. Through the mock interview exercise, I will provide specific and actionable comments that will help make any upcoming interview a success.
