The vast majority of attorneys looking for a new job will not find their opportunity through a headhunter or recruiter.
At the same time, especially in the current market, attorneys need advice on their job search beyond “apply to posted positions on Indeed.”
I provide a highly tailored job search consulting service to attorneys in this position. I bring the insights and experience of a former BigLaw corporate lawyer that left practice, plus 10+ years experience as a career advisor at Boston University School of Law and Harvard Law School. I offer practical advice and strategic goal-setting whether you are looking to make that next move right away or in the next couple years (see my testimonials).
I use my background and expertise to assist lawyers looking at a range of career opportunities including, but not limited to:
Law firms
In-house jobs
Government jobs
Start-ups and solo practice
Corporate positions
Non-legal positions
Here is an overview of the scope of Gridline’s one-to-one career advising services:
Free first career advising appointment: For attorneys, I start with a 30 minute free career advising appointment by phone, video or in-person (see my appointment scheduler). I will talk about your short-term and long-term goals in terms of your career planning, as well as how I can be most helpful to you as your legal career advisor.
Detailed materials review: If we decide to move forward working together, I will take a detailed look at your resume and other application materials. I’ve reviewed over 1,500 resumes in my work as a career advisor (I checked). The resume is the foundation of the legal job search - not only does it show your experience, it also needs to tell your story. Your resume and other materials may need to evolve and be revised, depending on the position. I will be there to help with that each step of the way.
Identification of opportunities: We will discuss opportunities in detail. I will create a shareable list that will be updated regularly. We will also discuss other strategies that may be necessary for success in your job search, including mapping and leveraging your network of legal contacts. We will not submit your materials for any position without your express written permission.
Frequent communication about job search progress: As a recruiter and career advisor, it’s important to be responsive to attorneys that are looking to make a job change. The process can be stressful and unclear. Whether by phone, email or text, I am here to keep you updated and motivated.
Mock interview preparation: Interviewing for a legal position is unique. As an experienced mock interviewer, I will coach you through what you can expect and how to handle the tough questions for each interview that you have.
Offer evaluation and counselling: When a job offer comes in, we will discuss the full terms and details.
